Did you know that John Adams was the President that signed the Aliens and Sedition Act into law?

As President, John Adams signed the Aliens and Sedition Act into law with the Federalist Majority in Congress. The "Alien" portion of the act gave the president power to banish or imprison foreigners by a simple order; the "Sedition" part made it a crime to criticize the government. Although Adams never invoked the Alien Acts, he did have several Jefferson sympathizers arrested on grounds of sedition.
